| Reporting late, sorry. Went to the track Wednesday, as our entire Buick GN club was meeting there to show put on a show of force. Drove the MisRed car instead of the Buick and went out to have some fun. The transmission that is in the car now is questionable and frankly I didn't care if it blew up that night or not. I just made sure that I had my AAA card in my wallet before leaving There is also a different motor in the MisRed car now. It's a fairly stock 3.8 with Champion iron heads (stock heads but ported with bigger valves). The rest of the motor is stock including crank, pistons, rods, injectors ect. This motor actually came out of my 130k mile Buick and has never seen a rebuild or been taken apart past the heads. Driving out to the track was a pleasant experience as usual. The car drives so calm on the street until you get into it of course. I pull into the track to find people changing tires and taking cars off trailers. I pull all the way up and I am the first one in the fast lanes. After a brief wait for the evenings only track prep, I find myself lined up to a beautiful Z06. With the Mazda just recovering from yet another drivetrain transplant, I am uncertain how the car will react, especially since I have had zero time to 'tune' it. We take off and I am looking in my mirrors at him the whole way down the track. We actually both ran a 12.9 but he only went 113mph and MisRed mustered 116mph. So I pull around to the staging lanes again because I have some work to do. The TCC isn't locking up with my switch in the console and the boost was only 15psi. After some ohming and boost adjustments the next run scarred the crap out of me. At 20psi and the car running probably like it should, I found myself using the entire left lane to my advantage! The car went 100mph in the 1/8th and I got out of the throttle somewhere after that to coast through at 12.3 @ 118mph. There appears to be a serious problem with spooling the car up on the line and also with the 3 to 4 shift. Short times are no better than 2.4!!. Basically when staging I mash both pedals hard and not an ounce of boost is created. This is due to a huge exhaust leak on the crossover pipe and apparently is seriously affecting the spool up of the turbo. Last run of the night, I try the other lane hoping the last runs zig zags were due to the lane itself. I was staging with a huge tired, nitros'ed, Mustang who proceeded to blow his clutch up on the burnout. Then the Z06 starts to stage in his place and I was told to just make a solo pass So last run of the night.. car launches with the force and acceleration of a wheel chair... then WAMMMM.... rockets after the 60 foot. Now I know what the supra guys feel like all the time! Car went straight with no dramatics. I did the 3-4 shift at about 5500RPM and all of a sudden I noticed nothing was happening. The car was hung up beween gears and I knew that the only way it was going to make it into 4th was to let off the gas and then get back into it. This has happened to me with another transmission that was on it's way out and they don't shift like they are supposed to when they have trash going through them... The rest of 4th gear was smooth sailing so I checked the boost gauge (20psi) checked knock (couple degrees) and kept it on the track. I really thought that run would be a waste, since the hang up in 4th gear, it just didn't seem like it would be a clean pass. I was amazed when I got the timeslip: 60ft 2.4 1/8th 8.235 @ 99.42mph 1/4 12.18 @ 124.48mph Needless to say, I was floored by the cars performance. At 5psi of boost less then the last motor, I still picked up .2 and 2mph without even getting a clean run. All of this on about 102oct of fuel to boot. I know now that I need to get this crossover pipe/transmission fixed before anymore racing is done. The difference between a 2.4 short time and a 1.6 short time is 1.2 seconds of total ET LOST. That tells me the car could have mustered a 10.99 on paper with a great launch and no hangups. I don't know if this will be feasible with the 245 nittos or even at our always unprepped track OSW. It will be awhile before i make it back for more racing, but I will be much better prepared hoping to lay down some much lower ET's....
