Default favorite fd rear end?

hey everyone. i am going to be doing a bunch of winter projects and wanted to know some info on your favorite choice for an fd's rear end. this is mainly a street car that will see minor 1/4 mile and minor road coarse times. i am not into autox or any specialized racing platform. i want to maintain an independent rear setup.

if money and time were nothing i think i would look into the cobra setup. and i still might. what do you guys run? tII, kaaz, stock, etc...

i am new to fd's. what is the week link in the rear?

thanks, jason

The weakest link is the diff. If you test your luck you can get lucky and just break the diff but some have broke the diff and had pieces get jamed in between the diff and the case and cracked the case open too. The second weakest link at least as far as the hinson kit goes is the tranny mount attachments. The welds will break on the cups that mount to the body or the nuts will crack out of the cups. I ran a OBX lsd for a little over a year without problems.

Any info on the Carbonetics out there, specifically, in comparison to the Kaaz?

Next to fail after the diff is the halfshafts. Halfshafts fail at the shaft as well as the CV cup stub ends.

I run a precision gear clutch type diff, it's like buying a new TII clutch type diff, in place of the stock torsen. I also use a PFS diff girdle to reinforce the diff housing and I dumped the torque arm in lieu of a custom diff mount that rigidly attaches the front of the diff to the chassis. This worked fine if you don't try to launch on slicks.

I'm moving to ET street radials hoping for traction so I'm upgrading the halfshafts and outer hubs to avoid failures.

What about the newer tranny mount attachments or will it still sheer the floor?

seen the diff break with just rolling it on in 2nd lol. Who knows what its history was but still.

My diff is making all kinds of noise just from 5 passes at the drag trip with DR's. I think my new slicks are going to be the end of it.

That sucks. I thought I was going to be safe with the stocker for a while as long as I didn't do any launching, but I should be a hair over 400WHP on R-comps, so I may need something that'll hold together.

After my swap the stock torsen diff got really loose (and a bit noisy) shortly after the swap, no way was I going to run nitrous on a loose stock diff. I had 430rwhp before the swap so it must have been the torque of the V8 that loosened up things in the diff.
