Default T5 in a FB?

Hey guys I know theres a few 1st gen owners running a T5 trans in your FB's. I plan on using one too but was wondering how much work is involed to get it to work. I noticed some using a hydraulic and some using the cable set up. Is one set up better than the other? Better yet is there a how to for this conversion? I plan on using this on a mild 5.0 motor.

Thanks, Ed

Yes, the 5.0L/T5 clutch setup,...welcome to the nightmare,...much discussed topic, goes way back,...cable setup means you have to reinvent the clutch pedal,...good luck,...a common way to make this work was to use a Wilwood or CNC pull slave to actuate the stock clutch fork in the same motion as the stock mustang cable setup,...some people had problems with getting enough travel out of the slave. As you will read in this post I don't know why no one just drill the hole in the clutch fork a little closer to the thro out bearing as that would create more movement by effectively shortening the lever?.

I went a different direction,...a GM S10 truck push slave cylinder mounted on a peice of iron flatbar bolted to the bellhousing where the clutch fork exits,...there's a flat face there, the push rod mounted thru a hole drilled in the clutch fork just inboard from where the stock cable would pull. I did this so the push slave was pushing STRAIGHT on to the clutch fork for the majority of it's travel.
On the rod it goes locknut/crowned spacer washer, convex side resting against clutch fork/clutch fork/double nut holding it all together,...a little slack.
7/8 wilwood clutch master cylinder,...hacked together hydraulic line,...making the connection at the GM slave was a PITA. I went ghetto and ended up tapping the plastic GM S10 slave housing for a screw in fitting then carefully pressing on a compression ring to ensure the pressure would'nt blow it apart, the stock slave nipple that is. ,...not as naughty as it sounds?!

sorry no pics,...car stored away.

hopefully you will get some more ideas/input.

Check out the miata.net engine conversion forum. This is a big topic over there as well with several threads.

Man looks like a C4 is the way to go but damn there too pricey. I almost picked up a T5 last night.

Thanks, Ed

Hey,...it's doable,...don't be discouraged,...here's a link to the cheapest pull slave I could find you,...this setup can be made to work,...so does mine,...rowing the gears is mandatory for me like many others.

eBay Motors: Speedway Hydraulic Slave Cylinder-Pull Type (item 130269842949 end time Nov-22-08 19:24:46 PST)

You could do everyone a favour by documenting your build, and with the help of pics we could help you along,...

Here's the S10 push style slave,...mine was plastic, this metal one would be easier to tap for a hydraulic fitting,...instead of the supplied push rod I used a peice of threaded rod, rounded smooth on the slave end.

I used the granny's slave cylinder and master cylinder, made my own bracket, and it was a bitch to get it adjusted just right. Here's a pic -

You can see the slave cylinder right by the oil filter at the top half of the page. Wish I had a better pick, but hope it helps.

Thanks for the pics. I was staring to lose hope on using a T5 on this swap. Is there a place that sells a bracket for the hydraulic swap? I found one when searching on this subject but no info on the seller.

Thanks, Ed
