Default Who has passed smog in NorCal?

I went to the ref in Livermore and he was a complete A-hole. I have all the smog equipment installed and working with no codes and he failed me for not running a Camaro fuel tank/pump/lines etc. and also said I need to swap the transmission. I have an 87 Porsche 944 with an 02 LS1, there is no way any of that crap will fit in my car. Can anyone recommend a particular ref that doesn't have his head completely up his ass? I'll travel just about anywhere at this point.

Thanks,
Craig

I went to Evergreen in Fremont. He was very picky, but I got through.

I used the Camaro pump in the RX7 tank.

I went to the ref in livermore when I had my civic. He was pretty nice and actually passed my car when it shouldnt have.

Maybe you caught him on a bad day or things are cracking down and he has to tighten things up?

This guy is new, I went there a couple years ago with a different car and that guy was pretty cool.

They closed the Fremont location.

The guy at Alameda college is pretty cool - Bob.

He had me come back w/ the evap can, and b/c of the shorty headers didn't have the right E/O BUT the upside was that he kept his word and barely looked the second time back (instead of rummaging for more issues).

As a funny aside - the smog hoses, etc where all hooked up except for ground on smog pump, so it was purely decorative.

Fuel tank and evap system is allowed to be from either the chassis or donor car. You should push back on the ref (politely of course). For what it's worth my source was the So Cal Regional Manager of CARB, Steve Lucas.

How can this be true if his 87 porsche didnt come with any of the obd II evap stuff. His porsche probably only has a evap/charcaol canister. At the very least ls1951 would have to modify the porsche evap canister to accept a vent valve. It just seems to make more sense to put all of the new obd II stuff on the older chassis.

Frijolee, did you pass smog using the factory mazda evap canister? Did you tap and drill the factory evap can to accept the vent valve?

LS1951, when you go back to another reff, dont let him know that you didnt use the doner cars transmition. Tell him that you used the complete drivetrain and evap from the doner vehicle. If he asks how did you mount tranny in the rear tell him the doner vehicle was a vett. The ref that looked under my car used a little mirror he didnt bother jacking up the car. I doubt he would have noticed that the tranny wasnt factory chevy unless you tell him.

Good luck man

Don't give out any information the ref doesn't ask for and you'll be fine! As long as the computer thinks the evap system is good all you should have to answer is that the evap parts and fuel pump parts are on top of the tank or under the car.

I've already installed the vent valve onto the Porsche charcoal canister. I don't understand why they would care about the manufacturer of the canister and lines if the EVAP system is functioning correctly. One ref will say something is ok while another one will say no way. It's very frustrating.

I just talked to a ref down south and he told me that the transmission and fuel tank do not have to be part of the swap. He has already passed a couple of LS1-944's so I may just drive down there and deal with him.
