Default FD Water Temp sending unit adapter fitment issues?

I bought the water temp sending unit adapter that has been recommended around the boards in several places:

LS1 Water Temperature Sender Adapter

I also went to autozone and bought a new temp sending unit. It should be a single wire unit, correct? The threads all seem to be right, but the actual proble is a little bit too thick to fit through the adapter. Did anyone else run into this problem? The obvious solution is to drill it out a bit, but I hate the idea of drilling out a brittle brass fitting and then tightening it into the head.

yes, it is a single wire sender.

i had no problem, because i bought a matched set from egauges.

frijolee had that issue. i think his discussion is in his build thread.

After breaking the original adapter off in the head and struggling for ever to get the broken piece out of the head i went to a local hydraulic shop to buy a new one, the one he gave me was not brass. It was a silver metal and i had to drill it out because the middle hole was tiny but when i was done it was still nowhere near as flimsy as the brass one.

Hockyz- Find the correct size drill bit and just drill the adapter out for the sender... The end result will be a very thin layer between the thread and the inside diameter, but, as long as you do not over tighten the adapter to the head(only tighten until the crush washer is flat) then you will be ok. And on the off chance that it does snap off in the head, just take needle nose pliers and put them in the hole and start threading it out.. It is actually very easy to retract the broken piece (ask me how I know.. ha)

I was nervous about how thin it was after drilling, put a 90* fitting from the hardware store between a new adapter and the probe.

Looks good, but you won't get accurate readings from a 90.

I had this and temps were off 10 degrees.

True, my autometer gauge consistently reads 10-15* cooler than the oem sensor in the driver head. Still I feel more comfortable with that than using a drilled brass adapter.
