Default Engine warm up time

how long does the ls1 take to warm up? Before i start to take this thing out and drive it around i want to make sure my fans work and all that. I had let it idle for a few minutes and it seemed that the thermostat hadn't opened yet, because the radiator was still cold and what not.

I have the 160degree thermostat.

How long should the motor take to warm up and open the thermostat?

Thanks.

Harrison

I have had both my fans turn on, yet the radiator was still not hot.

I just checked the thermostat and it does work. (put it in boiling water)

is there a certain way i should fill the cooling system? leave the cap off? do anything special?

Make sure you fill the motor through the upper rad hose into the top of the water pump. You have to have hot water behind the t stat to get it to open. Mine takes a long time to heat up 10 minutes or longer just idling. I also have 4 tiny holes drilled in my t stat so the cooling system is easier to fill and burp, so that being the case your may warm up a little faster than mine.

mine takes a bit to get above 185* in this time of year. never measures the time but at idle it's 5minutes+ easily. never thought about it, but i suppose my thermostat could be stuck open.
