Default What cause your delay in completetion/ hardest part?

im about to start my tear down this weekend... and just curious for those whove been wroking on their build for a long time what is delaying your build? (i assume for most people it is the lack of time)

also after looking through a bunch of builds and grannys overview of the install i dont see this swap being hard (even for my minimal mechanical expeirence) only thing i see difficult/complicating is the wiring... with that said what was the hardest part for your build/most time consuming?

Money. I do my builds cash only, no credit cards so in this build I saved up about 10k before I started, and that got me pretty far (already had alot of parts left over from my previous build). Then mid way though the build I decided to have alot more work done to the engine then I origionally planned, which is where I'm at now. It's only pushing me back about a month, but it's costly since now it will be colder in the garage (have a wood stove but non-insulated garage ).

Setting a plan and budget and sticking to it is how to get it done quickly. It also ensures you don't end up with the 'project to nowhere problem' that alot of people get themselves into, then end up parting out before they are done.

The most time consuming and difficult part of my last build was bleeding the damn clutch master/slave cylinders. Wiring is time consuming but it's not difficult you just need to follow the instructions that are out there and check/double check all your connections.

Indecisiveness.

I built my car with a TPI 355 and 700r4. Didn't like it, put in a carb. Didn't like it, put in an LS1/4L60e. Had problems, put in a 6.0L. Had problems, put in a 5.3L. Killed the tranny, rebuilt it. Killed the tranny, put in a T56. Didn't like the exhaust, changed it. Didn't like the nitrous, changed it. Didn't like the chassis, replaced it. Didn't like the new nitrous, changed it. Decided I wanted to turbocharge it, so I'm doing that now...

I'm also increasingly anal retentive each time I change something, I tend to tear the whole car down and fix the things that bother me. On a positive note, once I get the turbo debugged and my forged motor in, I think I'm getting somewhat close to what I want from the car. We'll see.

All that said, a full basic swap can be completed and debugged in a month or two pretty easily with proper planning. There really aren't any particularly difficult parts. Wiring is a few hours, engine bay prep is a few hours, install of the engine is a few hours, etc. Just a lot of small jobs to do.

Try to keep perspective and not let the overall project weigh on you, it's just a bunch of little projects, really.

Time. Engine has been out of car for 4 months, I've had all the parts to put this beast together for 2 months. Just finished harvest, 6 - 7 days/week, no time to mess with the car.
Also, the extra time to meet the ups/fed ex guy at the end of the road so the wife doesn't see him dropping off another truckload of parts.

Moving and having kids.. I pulled the 13b out of my FD the first time like 6 years ago when i first heard of Jimlabs swap on the rx7 boards, only to put it back in when i had a kid and bought a new house. 2 kids later and my house fixed just like i like it, I thought this summer would be a good time to get started again... then poof the market goes to shit and houses in my area are dropping 100k + in price and im in a position to do a massive upgrade in housing, so again the swap hits the back burner.

Automatics suck and turbochargers are more efficient than blowers.

Perhaps a 414 with twin 76 mm turbos and a solid axle? I'll do that in another chassis though, I like this one in "street" trim.

hardest part- figuring out why my blower didnt work. seriously.. it took me like a month of pouring over diagrams and pulling my hair out lol

biggest delay- finding a t56. after 6 months or looking, i ended up buying one with garbage synchros, and have been driving it since. i'm finally getting a rebuilt one next week..

Lack of skill/ability is my biggest constraint. I would say time is second biggest contraint.

Wiring specifically is where I've had really all my most significant issues. I Hope you started with a functioning/clean shell. Thats my best advice.
