Had a kid, had to work both real job and mod/tune other folks' cars, time is always hard to find.

Had to wait on parts & didn't like much of the available stuff on the market after I had it in my hands. Spent lots of time re-engineering and experimenting (cooling system, Torque Arm for diff, etc, etc).

Custom exhaust ... had to find a shop I trusted to fab exhaust and tune the car, arrange towing, then hope everything worked well enough to drive the car home. It worked out.

Once the swap was "done" it was really never "complete". Still making changes ...

Buying a complete car tearing it down and spending 6 months on body/paint. Basically all the stuff not associated with the swap, roll bar, custom interior crap, relocated the gas filler tank.

Money was what made my build take a year and a half.A build i thought would cost $7000 ended up costing around $13,000. It was all worth it when i finally drove my car around without any problems.

First it was horrible sponsor, then I decided to ignore my original budget and simpler plans since I knew finishing was nowhere near, and now I'm afraid to touch the car this semester, as I don't want it interfering with school. I'm still waiting on a subframe, but I don't see that being my last piece.

Choosing a shifter and trying to mount it so it looks like a factory job. This is with an auto. Pretty tough to do it with a T-handle that says B&M.

Rotary out in 1 evening. All parts except shifter and exhaust on hand. Engine and trans installed in 1 evening. Wiring completed in 1 evening. Screwing around choosing a shifter and mounting it was a couple of weeks. Exhaust done at muffler shop in 1 day.

Killed the tranny, put in a T56. Didn't like the exhaust, changed it. Didn't like the nitrous, changed it. Didn't like the chassis, replaced it. Didn't like the new nitrous, changed it. Decided I wanted to turbocharge it, so I'm doing that now...

I'm also increasingly anal retentive each time I change something, I tend to tear the whole car down and fix the things that bother me. On a positive note, once I get the turbo debugged and my forged motor in, I think I'm getting somewhat close to what I want from the car. We'll see.

All that said, a full basic swap can be completed and debugged in a month or two pretty easily with proper planning. There really aren't any particularly difficult parts. Wiring is a few hours, engine bay prep is a few hours, install of the engine is a few hours, etc. Just a lot of small jobs to do.

Try to keep perspective and not let the overall project weigh on you, it's just a bunch of little projects, really.
omg sounds like my rx8... was on its 4th engine when i got rid of it..

exactly what i figured. i dont think it should take more then a month if i have all the given parts so my 2-3 month goal seems reasonable to me... cuz once winter break starts ill be in the garage for 10+ hours a day if i need to, plus the help of some friends here and there

The first LS swap I worked on, we had 2 people for 40 hours and 3 people for 6 hours of it, and, aside from needing a clutch cable, the car was running and drivable. We started on a Friday and finished Sunday evening.
