Question 50mm offset RIMS...???

Ok, I'm looking at some 18"x8" 5x114.3 with a 50mm offset rims...

Will they fit on a 2nd Gen 5lug ?

any and all information regarding this size offset fitting would be appreciated ...

I assume with an 18" rim I'll have to use 35's correct?

Thanks alot,

I'm seriously shopping for wheels right now. From what I hear, 50mm will not fit. 37mm is the most I've seen used.

What wheel you looking at?

It depends on how wide the rim is. Since offset is measured from the center of the rim, the width plays a large part of fitment. Rishie on the Rx7 forum will have the answers you need. The best fit is going to be a different offset and width for the front and the rear, but it will probably be more expensive. that 50mm may work well on the rear, especially if the car is lowered with pos camber, but will not work on the front. it is a tight fit on the front.

One thing to keep in mind that I see a lot of people get confused about;

Backspacing and offset are NOT the same thing.

True, backspacing is determined by the offset of the wheel but the width of the wheel combined with the offset will give you the backspacing.

Example:

A stock convertible RX-7 BBS wheel is 15 X 6 inch with a 38 mm offset. Lets say .... you replaced the stock wheels with a 15 X 8 inch rim with a 38 mm offset. Even though both wheels have a 38 mm offset, the backspacing of the new wheels would be different because the new wheel is wider.

the 18s on my vert are 18 X 7.5 with a 45 mm offset. Yes ..they fit fine, but I don't like the way they sit in the fender wheels and the 7.5 are too narrow for the 265/35/18 tires I'm running in the rear on my car. I figured out by using my current wheel setup for measurements that a 18 X 8 with a 38 mm offset with a 225/40/18 tire up front and a 18 X 9 with a 38 mm offset with a 275/35/18 in the rear should fit and If I get new rims that is most likely what I would run.

Here is a website that has a wheel offset calculator that is a big help in determining what will fit.
