Default My turbo project is coming along

Hey guys, haven't posted in a long time, figured that I would post a quick pick of the new turbo set-up. I'm at work, so I only have 1 on my phone that I took this morning to show u guys. I will post some more detailed ones later this evening of the radiator set-up, and fuel system. The radiator is mounted, even though you can't see it in the picture. This project has taken many turns, but ended up another 406, with a 80mm on it. I have a converted lt1 intake, and a megasquirt I am working on, but I will fire it with the blow through carb set-up. A couple more weekends, and I should have some video. Thanks for looking, Steve

Nice, but aren't you worried about your exhaust heat on your water pump belt/pulley?

Nah, it will be coated and wrapped. I had to keep it low, because if it was higher then it would interfere with the LT1 intake that is coming. I couldn't go under, because that is where my 60mm wastegate is. I built a few setups, and this is the best I could fit. I also have a ram-air hood on the car, and going down the road air blows right over the top of the motor. I don't really think heat will be a problem. I think my only problem will be clutch issues. I'm looking for 700 to the tires, and with my current setup, it shouldn't be too hard.

I'm not, not yet anyway. On a carb blowthrough setup, the incoming air is cooled by the fuel. Fuel injected setups benefit from the intercooler. I already bought an Ebay intercooler, but don't really see a need to mount it until I figure out all the Megasquirt issues. To tell the truth, I might not even use it then. My turbo is sized right for my motor, so I won't have to spin the crap out of it or anything. As long as I make my mark, I don't care. The whole intake tract is probably less than 3 feet. So, just by natural convection, it shouldn't get very hot. Again, this is my first turbo setup, so I don't really know. The best way to learn is doing. So, that's what I'm doing. I should be done welding this weekend on the exhaust under the car. I will vid the first firing of the motor, I am anxious to hear it. I don't even have a muffler on it, they say I don't need one. I guess I will learn about that too. Thanks for looking, Steve

air gets hot when you compress it. heat soak from the engine is not a concern. The heat from compressing air is what is.

I don't feel that short bursts of 10-12 psi will warrant installing the intercooler. As stated above, the carb set-up will lower intake temps way more than a comparable fuel injected set-up. I feel that 3 feet of intake tract is way better than 12 feet of intake tract, and once the intercooler piping and intercooler get hot, then I am screwed. I just don't feel it will benefit me until I go injected, if I ever do. Thanks Steve
