Default 351W in a 84 GSL-SE

This is a 83 GS, With interior, rear end, and strut assemblies out of a 84 GSL-SE
Here is the car with the engine and rearend removed wire wheeled and some paint thrown in there

[IMG][/IMG]

Heres the 351W in for a trial fit. I had a set of Hedman Headers, but they actually touched the ground before the flange even made it down to the head..lol. So i wound up buying some BBK Ceramic shorty headers, as much as i hate shortys, there was just no way around it. I am planing on running the exhaust back into a single 4" on the passenger side, just shy of the tranny. then back and over the axle into a Electric servo controlled cutout and then through a 50 series Flowmaster. That way its quiet until i open her up and then shes loud and proud.

Doing some work on the interior(btw the dash is not at all the same between the 81-83 and the 84-85, just so you know) I had to rewire the whole shebang. Oh yeah i put those luminescent gauges in. I had them in my last one and liked them.

So far I have the car rewired, the tachometer re-calibrated and I already checked it while breaking the engine in(it was spot on after adding another 1K ohms and a little tweaking on the Potentiometer). I'm currently working on finishing out my bumper eliminator setup. I build the front end out of fiber glass. the rear end I welded in panels where the bumper went and built a license plate bracket.

That is already finished out, I just don't have the pics right now.

I'm looking at getting 17" rims some 235/40/17 on the rear and 205/45/17 up front. I just haven't decided what type of tire and style of rim yet.

Also i am looking for a T5 capable of 400 ft lb at least. Ive been holding off buying a new one in hopes of finding a good used one. I'm about done so ill be having to have one very soon.

One last thing i haven't looked at it much because ive been busy with other things, but i want a roll bar probably run the slings and the back 4. Any one here have some pointers on where to attach the roll bar? like i said i haven't even looked yet so it may be obvious, once i finally do.

Well i don't have any more pics right now but i have a Be Cool fan and built the radiator mount and what not. Oh yeah to help on weight. You'll notice in the pic below that the engine is back ridiculously far. I bought Grannyspeeds kit and it didn't even come close to working. so i modified the cross member, and wound up setting the engine down in an 1 1/4" farther back and 7/8" to the passenger side. All this to clear the headers and help retain the 50/50 weight ratio. I haven't weighed this car yet. But i intend too when its done and ill let you know how she sits.

Please leave comments, or insights.

Really nice and unique.
Your obviously a pretty well rounded hot rodder,...

so are you saying that you've mounted the 351W motor in a way that cleared the steering box WITHOUT modifying the headers,...if so that may a first.

Could you take some pics of the header clearance?,...
I made my own mounts for a 302, mounting the motor as far back as possible but even with that narrower motor the clearance is very tight on the steering box.

I'm afraid i didn't really take any decent pics but heres what i have.

this pic was after my first try(never used fiberglass before) i had to but the majority of that out and redo it because as you can see it was not at all close to being level. actually it embarrasses me to post this pic, but oh well.
