Default LS1 FD the car is finished... here are the pics!

I just finished up the car using Hinson's subframe and others. I took pics through out the build so I figured I would go ahead and post them up so here we go:

the car:

this is me cleaning up the engine bay before painting it:

the next two are after paint (I used rattle can paint, pretty close match, can hardly tell). The second has the sub-frame installed:

thanks, here are some more...

here is the motor with the pretty new clutch installed:

and of course some of the goodies from HSC:

half way in...It took about four people to finally get it in. I didn't realize that the old radiator tabs had to be removed first so I had to take off the AC comp. to get it all the way in:

after we finally got it situated and on the mounts:

the next three are pics of the tab removal:
now you see it:

Now you don't...:

No sign of it anywhere:

I'll post some more pics later. so far they are kinda boring, but I've got some good ones coming.

-John

ok...got a break between classes so I'll post up a few more.

the next three are the "custom shifter" my friend and I made. It looks kinda ghetto, but it works really well. we melted the rubber bushing out of the bottom, cut the big housing and the mounting bracket off, and welded the rod directly to the bracket. we then used a torch to heat and bend the rod to the desired location:

Got the radiator fitted in there:

Now for the exhaust. This was my favorite part of the build. I had never done anything like this before. I learned how to weld while making it. I had a llittle trouble with pin-holes, but I used a smoke machine (leak finder) to get it all fixed up. I used all mandril bends with a single inlet, dual outlet muffler reversed and used as a collector. the car sounds pretty good too. I left the fart can on there for now, may change it later:

more to come!

-John

Nice job on the shifter! Did you just drop the engine right in, no mods other then the clutch?

yeah, the motor is a stock 2002 ls1 with 48,000 miles on it. I had a buddy of mine tune it a little, but thats about it. I plan on doing some suspension stuff next, then maybe some motor stuff.

few more:

here is the battery box I made. Its angle iron on the bottom with threaded dowel wrapped in heat shrink. The top bar is just flat stock with more heat shrink to pretty it up some:

here is the intake. It's 4 inch mandril bent. Tight fit, but it works:
